TRAVEL & PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS
🏫 LOCATION
All sessions will take place at the Valor Compass Center which is located at 4523 Nolensville Pk, Nashville, TN 37211.
🕜 ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE TIMES
Please book flights that allow you to be fully present for all sessions. Plan to arrive at the Compass Center by 8:30 CT on 3/4 and book departing flights no earlier than 5:00 pm CT on 3/6.
⚪ ENGAGEMENT & PRESENCE
As you prepare for this event please let your colleagues know that you will not be accessible during core sessions. Compass Camp is an active training experience and requires your full attunement to maximize learning. Please note that during sessions, all participants are directed to put personal devices such as phones and laptops away to avoid distractions and to be fully "dropped-in" and present.
🍽️ MEALS
We will provide breakfast, coffee, snacks/drinks, and lunch on all 3 days of the training. You will be on your own for dinner each evening, please review our Visitor Guide for recommendations.
🏨 LODGING
When planning your travel please consider that the Compass Center is located in the South Nashville neighborhood and close to Brentwood, TN. If you are looking for specific local recommendations as you plan your trip, please review our Visitor Guide.
🧥 DRESS CODE
We want you to feel comfortable and at ease throughout your time with us. The Compass Center is often kept on the cooler side to balance the Southern humidity, so we recommend packing a sweater or an extra layer to stay cozy indoors. On Thursday evening, we’ll head off-site for a casual social event—feel free to dress for a relaxed evening out. That said, no part of the experience will require formal or elevated attire. Come as you are, and dress in whatever helps you stay present and engaged.
🚗 DAILY TRAVEL TO THE COMPASS CENTER
Once in Nashville if you are relying on Uber/Lyft we recommend pre-scheduling your rides to ensure you arrive on time each day with plenty of time for breakfast!

REQUIRED PRE-WORK
-
Prepare to Check-In with your Buddy School: During Training 3 you will work to craft the story of how your Adult Culture has been positively impacted. To help you prepare for this session, as a team take some time to reflect on the following:
-
What is different (so far) about your community this year as a result of the work your PBC team has led?
-
Is there a particular moment when your adult culture shined in a way that aligns to your vision? What happened?
-
Have you seen individual team members and/or relationships shift as a result of this work? What happened?
-
Are there numeric wins you see as connected to this focus on Adult Culture (i.e. projected staff retention, growth in staff perception data, etc)?
2. Badge Work (60-90 minutes total). Please complete the assigned Badge for your School using the guidance below. Every participant will have an opportunity to share their completed work in our Mini-Circles in order to create authentic Facilitation and sharing practice. To allow for tech free sharing of your work please bring print your completed badge before traveling to Nashville.
-
Middle & Elementary Schools: Complete the Gratitude Attitude badge (7th Grade Big Heart). Please read the entire packet, but only complete pages 15-17 to create your gratitude letters and bring the final version in hard copy. Note: You likely won’t be able to bring the person you write your letter to with you to Nashville, so we strongly encourage that you read your letter to them before you arrive so that you can share that experience with your Circle.
-
High Schools: Please complete our Cultivating Positive Emotions Badge: This is a 10th grade Big Heart Badge and one of the Starter Pack of Badges your Faculty will complete in the Spring Semester. Read Section 1: Why Do Positive Emotions Matter? (Pages 2-3) Read Section 2: What are 10 Positive Emotions? Choose 3 (Pages 4-6). Complete all of Section 3 (pages 6-7). Practice Cultivating Your Positive Emotion. Note: This section is spread out over the course of one week so plan to start your pre-work no later than November 7th. Complete Section 4: Use Your Positive Emotion (pages 7-10) & be prepared to present in Circle.
