TRAVEL & PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS

  • 🕜 Arrival & Departure Times:  Please plan flights or car travel that allow you to be fully present for the entire event. Plan to arrive at the Compass Center no later than 1:00 pm CT on Wednesday February 26th. If you are flying, please book a return flight leaving no earlier than 5:30 pm CT on Friday February 28th.

  • 🏫 Location: All sessions will take place at the Valor Compass Center which is located at 4523 Nolensville Pk, Nashville, TN 37211. 

  • Engagement & Presence: As you prepare for this event please let your colleagues know that you will not be accessible during core sessions. This workshop is an interactive experience that invites you to bring your full attention and presence; as a result we ask visitors to put away devices during core sessions and experiences.

  • 🏨 Lodging: When planning your travel please consider that the Compass Center is located in the South Nashville neighborhood and close to Brentwood, TN. If you are looking for specific local recommendations as you plan your trip, please review our Visitor Guide.  

  • 🍽️ Meals: We will provide breakfast, coffee, snacks/drinks, on all full days of the event. You will be on your own for lunch on day one and dinner each evening, please review our Visitor Guide for recommendations. 

  • There is no required pre-work or materials for this event. If you aren’t familiar with Valor’s Compass model, you may find it helpful to review our website before arriving in Nashville.

  • 👕Our dress code for this event is casual. We want you to feel comfortable throughout the event so dress for a sense of ease.

  • 🚗 Daily Travel to the Compass Center: Once in Nashville if you are relying on Uber/Lyft we recommend pre-scheduling your rides to ensure you arrive on time each day with plenty of time for breakfast!

What to expect: Balance over Burnout is a different kind of training experience that is focused on you and your needs as a hard working Educator. You will have the opportunity to step away from the busy day to day of your role, connect with other Educators from around the country, and build your toolkit of research backed practices for well-being.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 26

1:00p -1:30p               Arrival & Check-In. Light snacks available.

1:30p - 2:00p              Workshop Opening

2:00p - 3:00p              Navigating the Stress Cycle: Understand the science of how Stress impacts our                                                bodies and research based best practices for responding to stress when it shows up.

3:00p - 3:15p              Break

3:15p - 4:00p              Navigating the Stress Cycle: Engage in facilitated group Mindfulness practice as a                                          way to practice moving through the Stress Cycle.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 27

8:30a - 9:00a               Daily Arrival and Breakfast

9:00a - 10:15a             Day 2 Opening & Circle Connect with your fellow Educators through Valor’s core                                            Compass Circle practice. If you are new to Compass Circles, check out this overview                                      here.

10:15a - 10:30a           Break

10:30a - 12:15p          My Origin Story & Superpowers: Reground in the gifts that you bring to this work,                                         where those come from for you, and how those can serve you in your day to day.

12:15p - 1:15p           Lunch

1:15p - 3:00p             The Power of Self-Compassion: Analyze the relationship between stress and Self-                                           Compassion and practical strategies for offering yourself more compassion in the                                           challenging work as an Educator.

3:00p - 4:00p             Individual Reflection to synthesize the work we've completed today and prep for                                             Friday’s Circles.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 28

8:30a - 9:00a              Daily Arrival and Breakfast

9:00a - 9:30a            Cultivating Balance in your real life: Craft a plan for how you can take the strategies                                       from this workshop back to your day to day life.

9:30a - 10:30a          Navigating the Stress Cycle Activities: You’ll choose from a few different                                                           opportunities to practice additional strategies we learned on Day 1.

10:30a - 11:30p          Individual Reflection and preparation for afternoon Circles.

11:30p - 12:30p          Lunch

12:30p - 2:00p            Circles: You will have the option to share your individual reflections with a group of                                        peers in Valor’s core Compass Circle practice. If you are new to Compass Circles,                                            you can learn more here.

2:00p - 2:45p             Workshop Closing
