Who Should Attend?

To support our COVID safety plan and the reality of understaffed Schools right now we are limiting attendance for this event to a maximum of 4 total participants per School. We will revisit this norm in the Spring and appreciate your Powered by Compass team’s flexibility in adjusting course from our initial plan for training. Please ensure that your PBC Team huddles to determine who will attend this training prior to registering for the event.

Mandatory Pre-Work for this Event

1.  Report your vaccination status using this confidential form. If appropriate, you will be asked to upload a photo of your vaccination card. If you will be submitting a negative COVID test, or if you are not yet fully vaccinated, Jonathan will reach out to you with a reminder and directions for uploading one week prior to the event.

2.  Faculty Badge Work (60 min or less) During this training you will learn to facilitate three new badges that you can leverage for Faculty Circles this year and that Students will experience next year when you transition to grade level aligned Badge Work.

Bring ONE of the following completed badges to Training, ready to share. You will need authentic work to engage in Mini-Circle Practice effectively so it is critical that every individual brings their work to training.

  • 6th Grade Noble Purpose: Identity Deck: Please read the entire packet, but only complete pages 8-11 to bring to training.

  • 7th Grade Big Heart: Gratitude Attitude: Please read the entire packet, but only complete pages 17-19 to bring to training.

  • 8th Grade Big Heart: Self-Kindness Master Plan: Please read the entire packet, but only complete pages 14-16 to bring to training.

3.  Student Circle Data (15 min or less) To ensure you have the most up to date information about Student Circle progress, please:

  • Check that your Walkthrough Dashboard and Badge Work Trackers are up to date.

  • Bring a copy of your most recent Walkthrough Debrief Agenda.

Travel and Planning Considerations

  • Please plan to arrive at the Valor Compass Center no later than 8:30am CT on Wednesday. You can expect some morning traffic, so please plan accordingly.

    • When booking hotel accommodations, consider that the Compass Center is closer to Brentwood than downtown, but hotels in the Green Hills neighborhood, downtown Nashville, and the Gulch are all within a reasonable distance to Valor. If you want a more unique Airbnb experience, East Nashville is the most eclectic part of town with a wider variety of restaurants, bars, and entertainment. Airbnb tends to be approximately the same cost as a moderately priced hotel in Nashville.

    • We will provide a light breakfast, coffee, snacks, and lunch on all 3 days of the training, and we will be hosting an outdoor social event with food on Thursday. Let us know if you want some recommendations for dinner on the other nights you are here.

    • Please book your return flight no earlier than 2:30 CT on Friday to ensure you do not miss any sessions and can safely get to the airport in plenty of time for your flight. We expect all participants to attend the full training, from beginning to end, and the airport can take up to 30 minutes to get to on a Friday, in addition to wait time for a ride share.

    • Prepare to be fully present for all sessions: We know leaders are facing tremendous challenges this School Year- which makes the time away for connection and learning both hard to navigate and even more needed. Ask for support from your manager and teammates by planning for coverage and setting the norm that you will be offline during sessions. While you are engaged in training at the Compass Center, all participants are directed to put phones and laptops away to avoid distractions and to be fully dropped-in and present.

COVID Safety Plan

  • All participants must submit proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours of the event start in order to attend. You may do so by clicking here.

  • While indoors we will require all participants to wear masks.

  • The Training will take place at the Valor Compass Center. This is a separate building from our Schools dedicated to adult development and training, and we will not visit School sites at this time.

  • We are limiting the capacity for this event in order to allow the physical space for as much social distancing as possible. The main training room will be set-up with three feet of social distance between each chair. The Compass Center is also not accessible to students, and the number of adults with access to this building is also limited.

  • We have outdoor dining space available for those who feel more comfortable eating lunch outside.

  • Our (optional) Cohort Social Event will be held at an outdoor venue.

We are here to support! If you have any questions or concerns about these safety measures, please reach out to your Valor Coach as soon as possible.
