DATA TOOLS

DATA TOOLS SETUP FOR PRINCIPALS

Before Circle Facilitators can setup their own dashboards, the school leader or other PBC Team member must complete the initial Data Tools Setup using the instructions below. You must use the Google Drive folder shared with you from your Valor Coach, or these tools will not function. Screen capture videos are embedded in directions for clarity.

MENTOR DASHBOARD SETUP

Once your school’s Data Tools are established, and you have created a template for each Circle Facilitator in your school, you may share the link to the corresponding Mentor Dashboard and these directions with each Circle Facilitator.

CIRCLE ESSENTIALS WALKTHROUGH

All Facilitators should receive Circle Essentials feedback at the beginning of every year, with the goal of mastering these essentials before focusing on Circle Quality.

CIRCLE QUALITY WALKTHROUGH RUBRIC

Once a facilitaor has mastered the Circle Essentials (evidence by average >2.5 for at least 3 weeks), be sure to update their profile on the data site to "Quality" and use the Circle Quality Rubric to collect data and guide feedback.

CIRCLE LAUNCH UNITS

UPPER ELEMENTARY CIRCLE LAUNCH UNIT

2023-2024

The first four weeks of Compass will be used to help orient Scholars to the purpose and process for each of the core components of the Compass model. We are providing an intentional on-ramp at the beginning of the year to ground Scholars and mentors in a collective “why” for our work. We view this time as teaching Scholars how to “work” their Compass - providing a Compass to someone as a navigation tool is great, but if they do not know how to use it or why it is important, the usefulness can be minimal. We also want to give Scholars deliberate space and time to connect with each other to create connection and safety with their advisory and deepen their sense of belonging within the school community.

INITIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL CIRCLE LAUNCH UNIT

2023-2024

A common question from our partners has been, “where do you start?”. We’ve tested a few different approaches to the launch of Circles here at Valor and with partner schools.  We’ve learned that a “right sized” (i.e., not too long, not too short) and thoughtful launch of this work sets both Scholars and Teachers up to have stronger Circles faster. Similar to an approach you’d leverage in classrooms to teach rules and build initial relationships, those steps help to build the first layer of safety as Scholars are learning a new ritual like Circle. This unit provides guidance and an exemplar of what it can look like to scaffold the launch of Circle in the first four weeks of school.
